I had one day to experience the best of New York City, so I figured, why not do it all? I signed up for a 5.5-hour guided city tour, hopping on and off the subway and city buses—because let’s be honest, if you want to see New York the right way, you have to travel like a New Yorker.

We kicked things off at St. Patrick’s Cathedral at 9:00 AM. Standing there, taking in the incredible architecture, I thought, Wow, this city really knows how to make an entrance. From there, we jumped on the subway (which was surprisingly smooth) and made our way to Grand Central Terminal. That ceiling alone is worth the trip!

Next, we wandered through Little Italy on a guided tour. The aroma of fresh pasta and espresso filled the air, and I made a mental note to come back later for some cannoli.

Then came the big moment—the Statue of Liberty. We had 45 minutes to take it all in, and even though I’d seen pictures my whole life, nothing compares to standing there in person, gazing up at Lady Liberty with the skyline behind her.

After that, we made our way to the 9/11 Memorial & Memorial Pools. This was one of the most powerful stops of the day. We spent another 45 minutes there, and the atmosphere was deeply moving—a reminder of the city’s resilience and strength.

From there, we followed the Ticker-Tape Parade Route on a guided walk. I never realized how many famous champions—sports teams, astronauts, even world leaders—had marched down these streets. Then, we hit Wall Street, where the famous Wall Street Bull was surrounded by tourists taking pictures (and rubbing its nose for luck). We also saw Federal Hall and the historic Trinity Church—both places steeped in history that I had only ever read about.

Finally, we wrapped things up in Times Square, and let me tell you—there is no better place to end a whirlwind day in New York. The energy, the lights, the massive billboards flashing everything from Broadway shows to the latest sneakers—it was electric.

By the end of the tour, my feet were tired, but my heart was full. If you want to see New York in one action-packed day, this is the way to do it.
